“Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.”

-Henry David Thoreau, Walden

All too often we stumble over a pop bottle or trip on discarded fishing line on the Roanoke River. Tossing old worm bait containers and foam coolers seems to have become the normal thing to do.

Stop. If you haul trash in, you most certainly can haul it out. Your trash as well as that left by others.

Often while hiking we find pieces of garbage strewn about. Bottles here, empty bags there, refuse everywhere! Not only should we practice leaving no trace while camping but also haul out as much trash as possible. I can't just walk past it and ignore because I know that it will be there waiting for me the next time I hike by. So, I pick it up and bag it.

Please, stop throwing trash on the ground. If you can hike it in you can hike it out!
