“Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.”

-Henry David Thoreau, Walden

The USMC Combat Tent is a two-man, three/four-season, freestanding double walled tent. The USMC Combat Tent incorporates a vapor-permeable tent body with a waterproof floor and waterproof fly (seams are factory taped for water fastness), which provides a vestibule area for gear storage. The USMC Combat tent has two doors (entrance/exit openings), and using collapsible aluminum poles requires no special tools for erection or striking. Additionally, the rain fly is designed to be freestanding and adaptable as a "hooch" for use independent of the tent body utilizing the poles and the stakes provided.

USMC Two Man Combat Tent Poles

USMC Two Man Combat Tent Poles Dac Pressfit Lock Tip

The Diamond Brand Gear USMC Two Man Combat Tent uses three DAC Pressfit Lock Tip poles. DAC's (Dongah Aluminum Corporation) first task when it entered the world of high quality backpacking and mountaineering tent poles, was to solve two problems that plagued its competitors: slipping connector tubes (because of glue failure) and the nasty habit of breaking without warning (sending sharp ends ripping through the tent's rainfly). DAC's elegant solution was to master a technically demanding interference fit between the connector tube and the main poles - requiring no glue - and to use a more ductile alloy (a Japanese variation on 7001). The resulting "Pressfit" poles are still the most rugged and reliable poles made in the world today.

DAC has developed "green anodizing" that eliminates nitric and phosphoric acid to minimize environmental damage and improve the working environment. DAC's GREEN™ anodization avoids the use of toxic heavy metals in the finishing process.

USMC Two Man Combat Tent DAC J-Stakes

USMC Two Man Combat Tent DAC J-Stakes

Lightweight, strong and durable, the DAC J-stake is the ultimate choice for most one to two-person tents. The DAC stakes that came with my USMC 2 Man Combat tent did not come with cord loops. This pleasantly proved difficult in removing the stakes from the ground. The solution? Added the loops myself.

USMC Two Man Combat Tent Operational Environment

The Combat Tent, with rainfly, designed to be operable in conditions from 0 to 120 degrees F as found in the mountains and desert. The tent provides ventilation for use in desert/arid environments and designed to minimize the internal buildup of condensation. The shelter is able to withstand steady 40 mph winds with gusts to 55 mph. It provides protection from driving rain, sand, dust, and blowing snow. When subjected to wind-driven rain at a maximum of 20 mph and rain falling at the rate of 2 inches per hour. Comfort being degraded is defined as rain droplets hanging on the inside of the tent and dripping in to form puddles. The Combat Shelter provides protection from flying and crawling insects and provides sufficient headroom for donning and doffing clothing. Additionally, the Combat Tent with rain fly prevents the escape of light and provides protection against visual and infrared detection. The capability for independent use of the rain fly will allow Marines to tailor their environmental protection needs and reduce weight as required.
