“Heaven is under our feet as well as over our heads.”

-Henry David Thoreau, Walden

Working all day with my Husqvarna axe we decided to try a little tracking at night. Dad usually goes ahead and I try and track him to see if I can pick up his spoor. Sometimes at night it can be easier to track men than during the day because your light can illuminate tracks better.

Well, this night something just didn't feel quite right. It was as if the darkness was closing in on us, stoking the desire to check over our shoulders at every step. We decided to call the tracking off and build a fire to warm up water for hot chocolate. Nothing except the sun pushes back against the night like a bright and hot fire! I'm learning that it's best to just follow my instincts, when it's not feeling right it's not feeling right and it's time to call it off.
