PURDEY, JAMES & SONS, LTD. Toplever Hammer Gun

Completed: 16th September 1879, Calibre: 12-bore, Description: No. 2 of a pair of toplever bar-in-wood hammer game guns, Weight at completion: 6lb., Barrels are 28 1/2" and both are 1/2 Choke, Stock length is 14 1/2". This gun was built for Baron Alphonse de Rothschild, the richest of the French Rothschilds. Note: Has Light front trigger, and large trigger guard, and Locks jointed into action The Baron likely kept this gun at his Paris mansion that is now the American Embassy. This as with all firearms owned by Baron Rothschild is steeped in French, German, and American history. Our shop did the cleanup for this gun and we have many other photos available for viewing upon request. The Sterling Silver Monogram of Alphonse de Rothschild is inlaid into the bottom of the stock. Two identical guns were built but the location of #1 is unknown. Although there are dings in this Damascus barrel it truly is a work of art and a part of French History in the late 1800s. Offers will be considered.
