A compact, strong, simple breech mechanism allows the Ruger No. 1 single shot to be made with a minimum of mechanical contraptions. The ejector mechanism is designed to provide great leverage at the point where the ejector engages the rim or groove of the cartridge case. It can be adjusted to provide extraction only. A sliding shotgun type tang safety provides both security and ease of operation.
